FAWrient Express

During the summer of 2023, a train carriage made its way to Five Acre Wood school via a less than conventional method of train travel. After being held at a service station in Great Yarmouth, the carriage made its way down various motorways towards Maidstone where it was eventually hoisted into position by three cranes on the school site. It now sits under tarpaulin and scaffolding ready for its transformation.

The 64 foot long, 35 tonne former buffet train carriage will be transformed into a functioning café for pupils to learn skills in hospitality; serving drinks to parents, visitors and the local community which will be aptly named the ‘FAWrient Express’. Thanks to backing from several businesses, including Costa and Panasonic, renovation plans are already underway. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the project so far and cannot wait to see how the project progresses.
