Woodstock ‘Road-eo’ (17th May 2014)
The mission – a fundraising cycle ride on the 17th May, to raise money for our annual ‘Woodstock’ music festival, staged to give our pupils a spectacular ‘out of this world’ experience which, given their significant needs, they may never otherwise have the chance to encounter. The name – the Woodstock ‘Road-eo’, so as to tie in with this year’s ‘Wild West’ Woodstock themed extravaganza! The route – Rochester Castle to Canterbury Cathedral, along the ‘Pilgrims Way’, which is about 50 miles (we won’t mention the small ‘victory’ lap around Canterbury, which consisted of an accidental diversion of at least 15 miles!)
The amount of pre-event training undertaken – zero! The gallant band of heroes who took up the gauntlet – Jill Lawson, Tim Williams, Hayleigh Blighton, Emma Hendey, Kylie Overton, Matt Jones and Dave Clay.
The epic crew of drivers, first aiders and supporters, without whom the event would not have been possible – Sarah Eiffert, John Hughes, Rebecca Robertson, Adele Orr, Katie John and Laura Keene. The additional finish line supporters, who helped cheer everyone ‘home’ – Jonathan Jackson, Stephanie Batten and Leanne Burgess.
The time spent in ‘saddles’ – from 8am until 7:30pm!
The reward – raising over £1000 for our cause, as a result of unbelievable grit, willpower and determination, amazing teamwork and camaraderie.
The huge thanks – To everyone that took part and supported this event as well as to the many, many sponsors (you know who you are!). Thanks also to Kelly Walker and family for re-fuelling everyone mid route and Debbie Griffin for converting our bikes into horses!
The next ‘small’ challenge – watch this space!
